SCEE scoops awards at GC

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe ended the Games Convention, Leipzig, in style, winning three 'Best of GC' awards.

Judging from the response from visitors, the Games Convention in Leipzig was a resounding success for SCEE, and one that was rounded off nicely when a panel of games and entertainment journalists awarded LittleBigPlanet, Resistance: Retribution and PlayTV with prestigious ‘Best of GC' awards.

LittleBigPlanet scooped the Best PS3 Game prize, impressing the judges with its creative approach to gaming and its focus on the community.

"LittleBigPlanet comes with a convincingly vivid backdrop and almost unlimited possibilities with entertaining level structure," the panel noted. "It adds both a social and a creative element to the console world: the gamer community becomes the developer community."

PlayTV, a device which allows user to watch, pause and record free-to-air digital television on their PS3, won the Best Innovation award. It is compatible with Remote Play for PSP, which allows users to watch live television and programmes that they have recorded on their PS3 from any Wireless hotspot in the world, using their PSP.

"The remote function is particularly impressive," remarked the judges.

Finally, Resistance: Retribution - a new action game set in the time between Resistance: fall of Man and Resistance 2 - was awarded best PSP game, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Buzz!: Brain Bender and Super Stardust Portable.

The awards capped off a great week for SCEE, and demonstrate just how much European PlayStation fans have to look forward to in the coming months.
