PlayStation®Portable (PSP™) in Education and Training – the story so far

Over the last 18 months the PSP as a mobile learning platform,has been used extensively in nearly 100 UK educational and training institutions.
The combination of the PSP's games heritage and its ability to capture and play open standard educational digital content via audio, video, and internet has made it a compelling new mobile learning platform.

East Birmingham City Learning Centre and Richard Healey, Centre Manager: has for 18 months now using PSP across a diversity of sites and content providers including Longwill School for the Deaf and King's Heath School with SUMS ONLINE. RM PLC and Joyce Ness, Senior Education Consultant, Leeds: this is a ‘pathfinder' programme for Building Schools for the Future (BSF), schools include The Autism Resource Centre (ARC), which is part of the North West Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC), Allerton Grange High School and Temple Moor High School. Longwill School for the Deaf, Birmingham and Alison Carter Deputy Head: Results have included increased motivation and autonomy and raised achievement in spelling as well as making parents feel more involved and valued as partners in their child's learning.Harefield Specialist Sports Academy and Paul Quinn, Deputy Head: PSPs have been used for a year in two specific areas, PE and A Level ICT with web based content programmes like Yacapaca.Holyhead Secondary School, West Bromwich, Emily Blain, Class Teacher: Results show that the students who used the PSPs had the same or slightly better outcomes in their attainment plus the levels of engagement, enjoyment, and ownership were higher.The Royal Navy and Lt. Alex Smith Engineering Training Manager HMS Collingwood, Portsmouth: has used PSP for 9 months to train new recruits in basic numeracy skills. This has been combined with an innovative lesson capture programme called Lecturnity to capture all its Maths lessons and make these available as videos on the Sony PSPsFor more information:
