Barcelona beckons for the FIWC finalists

After another goal packed season of virtual football, the 32 FIFA Interactive World Cup grand finalists for 2010 are revealed.

If the sun is shining on Barcelona's Port Olympic on 1 May 2010 then the 32 FIFA Interactive World Cup grand finalists will hardly notice. Their eyes will be fixed on the prize, which this year is a colossal 20,000 USD and an invitation to collect their trophy in front of football's glitterati at the FIFA World Player Gala in Zurich.

More than 775,000 FIFA 10 players fought for those precious Grand Final places both online, via PlayStation Network, and at Live Qualifier Events across the globe. The confirmed line-up, made up of players from 22 countries, includes reigning champion Bruce Grannec and previous winners Alfonso Ramos Cuevas and Chris Bullard.

"I am delighted to see the huge interest of fans from all over the world in this event, which keeps growing every year," said FIFA Executive Committee member Chuck Blazer, who will attend the Grand Final in Barcelona. "I enjoyed last year's final very much and I am looking forward to watching the best interactive players in the world face off once again."

The event will be open for spectators to bask in goals and sunshine; there will also be a DJ set from Groove Armada's Andy Cato, as well as interactive areas to show off your football skills and try your hand at a range of PlayStation games.

"To have had over 775,000 participants clearly shows the passion of both the EA SPORTS FIFA 10 and PlayStation fans," added Darren Carter, Vice President of Consumer Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "I have no doubt that it is going to be the best final yet and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Barcelona in May."
