Battle of the Nations results

Spain are champions of Europe, but who finished top of the Battle of the Nations leaderboard in EA’s UEFA EURO 2008?

Perhaps disappointed with their team's performance in the European Championships, French football fans have been venting their frustration against other fans online, and France have claimed top spot on the Battle of the Nations leaderboard in the official UEFA EURO 2008 videogame.

Battle of the Nations, from EA Sports' UEFA EURO 2008, compiles the online results of players from all over Europe into a league table. Since the game's release in April, points have been awarded for victories in online matches and those points have been added to the running total of the winning player's home nation. Players don't necessarily have to play as their country and more points are awarded for beating a stronger team than your own.

The leaderboard has been continually updated throughout the real life competition and now that it has all come to an end, it seems that the French are the virtuosos of the virtual game.

Real life tournament winners Spain managed second place, while defeated finalists Germany finished sixth. England and Scotland, evidently keen to make up for their failures to qualify for EURO 2008, finished third and fifth respectively, while real life quarter-finalists Italy fared slightly better in Battle of the Nations, coming fourth.
