Demo guide: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11

Want to tackle the Tiger? Find out how to bring your skills to the fore in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 demo.

The Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 demo gives you a taste of one of the biggest golfing experiences in videogames. Here are a few tips to make sure you don't look too green on the green...

Golden words

You may be tempted to skip the pre-hole commentary and dive straight into the action, but each introduction to the course brings some invaluable insight to the traits and dangers of what you'll be facing. Take it all in, as well as the caddy's handy tips to make sure you don't fall foul of tricky sand traps or worse when they could have been easily avoided with a little more attentive caution.

Take your time

You will often gain nothing but bitter disappointment by rushing in golf, so make sure you don't feel pressured into a shot and only play the ball once you're entirely happy with your decisions.

This is even more important when playing with a new addition to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, True Aim - a challenging feature to test any hardcore golfer. Instead of traditional aiming methods, your only way of judging distance is through realistic yardage markers set throughout the course. It means your club choice and execution is more vital than ever before as careless hit-and-hope shots will be punished.

Whether you have True Aim on or not, keep up with your practice swings and take your time. The best golfers know that good pacing can mean the difference between winning... and going home with nothing but regret.

"If the weatherman says it's raining..."

The elements always play an important factor in golf and you'll be wise to keep an eye on the sky as it can dramatically affect your chances. A nice clear day may be great, but if the wind is stronger than 10MPH then you may want to adjust your direction and power to compensate so you don't overhit or misjudge an angle. Similarly, taking a shot in the rain will also mean switching your tactics, speeding up some parts of the course and deadening other parts. Respect the weather the same way you would respect the rough and sand - and be flexible in your play.

Focus... focus...

Another new feature introduced to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 is the Focus system, which is designed to help bring the best out of your growing skills and give you even more control. As you play through the demo you'll be given the chance to use Focus to increase your chances at a successful shot, whether it's using the Putt Preview on a difficult green, pushing a Power Boost to land your shot in a better location, using a Target Zoom to increase your accuracy, or other features.

However, the Focus bar depletes each time you use it, so be very careful on what you decide is important. You may want to tactically save some of your Focus for hole winning shots, or if you're playing the prestigious Ryder Cup then it's worth bearing in mind that your Focus usage could make a difference to your team's final outcome as well as yours, so blowing it all on your opening tee or even a second shot may be unwise. Remember that each shot you perform without using Focus replenishes the bar, so don't rely on it unless you really need to.

Play like you mean it and share the wealth

You may think the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11 demo is a good way to warm up for the real thing when it launches on PlayStation 3, and you'd be right - and there's also the extra incentive to carry your skills and experience to the main game once you've finished with the demo. You can earn valuable in-game experience points (XP) by playing well on the course such as landing on the fairway and sinking a birdie shot, and also inviting friends to download the demo. This gained XP can be used to help boost your created golfer's skill attributes when you buy the full version of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11.

So, enough talk. Bring your best shot to the green and download the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 demo from PlayStation Store now.
