F1 2010 first impressions

Get behind the wheel with this first impressions of Codemasters’ F1 champion on PlayStation 3.

Set for release in late 2010 on PlayStation 3, Codemasters' F1 2010 already bears all the makings of a top tier F1 game that fans of the series and newcomers alike are going to find themselves thrillingly addicted to. Built with the power of the EGO game engine, F1 2010 features everything that racing fans are familiar with including blistering tires and marbling, whereby rubber marbles cast across the track by damaged tyres can make for extremely hazardous driving during some of the game's high speed dashes for the finish line.

Opponents are going to be much more aggressive too. They will consistently present you with tougher challenges on the track by pulling off defensive moves. These manoeuvres include swinging across the lane to stop you from overtaking or trying to break free from your attempts to harness their slipstream. It's going to be a challenge, but that's what F1 2010 on PS3 is all about: competing against the best drivers in the world for that coveted trophy and the glory that comes with it.

The game is broken down into two sections: Be The Driver and Live The Life. Everything that takes place on the track including the focus on tyre management in Be The Driver. This was recently put in place when the rules of F1 were altered for this brand new season. The Live The Life aspect deals with what happens trackside, concentrating on the glitz, glamour and attention that follows a winning performance.

For example, the better you do as the season progresses, the more interest other teams and the press will take in you. You will also be able to manage your success via your agent operating out of your VIP home, which is located trackside. Here you can cut new deals, negotiate contracts with other teams and also interact with the media during the flashy press conferences.

Along with planned multiplayer and a number of additional modes, F1 2010 will feature a vast career campaign that sets particular objectives for you in each of the races depending on your car and your opponents. For example, in some races you may find yourself tasked with finishing in the top three places rather than having to finish first in a car that may not be able to compete with its rivals at that stage in your career. This feature will also play a predominant role in the game's online modes too. With plenty of fine tuning to go before the game arrives on PlayStation 3, F1 2010 already has all the makings of a podium champion.
