Following Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's press conference in Cologne, Germany, the world's publishers set up shop across three huge halls at the Kölnmesse to show off their upcoming games in style. With the opening day of gamescom 2011 reserved for trade and media only, this was the perfect opportunity for the game makers to make sure everything was just right - and judging by these pictures the fans are going to have plenty to keep them busy once the fun starts in earnest. At the Sony Computer Entertainment stand which dominated Hall 7, there was a distinct beach theme under the banner of "Let's PlayStation", and the jewel in the crown was undoubtedly a full size Audi R8 sportscar equipped with hydraulics for the ultimate Gran Turismo 5 experience. Next door in Hall 6, Electronic Arts had also managed to wheel in some impressive hardware, with a fighter jet promoting Battlefield 3 providing the perfect photo opportunity and a trio of hot cars drawing the crowds in to take a closer look at Need For Speed The Run. Over by the main entrance in Hall 8, SEGA's gaming icon Sonic poked up above the crowds whilst Warner Bros. had recreated a corner of the game's setting for Batman: Arkham City.
