Overlord II developer interview

Discover how to be a true tyrant with the tongue-in-cheek help of Overlord II's Assistant Producer Dean Scott, and Global Comms Manager Sam Cordier.

How can you go about making the world a little bit darker in Overlord II?

Dean Scott: Well, one example is being able to enslave whole towns. Overlord storms into snowy, idyllic town with Minions, Overlord forcibly removes residents' free will by enslaving them with his Domination spell, residents then set to work making money for the Overlord. A little bit of fun magical enslavement, and every time you come back the saps have got bags of money for you.

If that's not enough for you, how about desecrating sacred elf shrines? Committing genocide against gnomekind just because you don't like their stupid pointy hats? Having a horde of eager Minions gives you a lot of coverage in terms of being able to wreak indiscriminate mayhem.

What are Minions and what can they do?

Sam Cordier: The Minions are really the star of the show in Overlord II and are treated somewhat as mischievous, chattering bullets. All the Overlord's four Minion types have their core abilities improved: they are all stronger, smarter, more destructive and funnier than before.

All Minions have their key abilities adapted to new challenges the game brings. Minions are now able to do things such as ride mounts including wolves, spiders and dragon-like salamanders and they can work together to control war machines including war ships and massive catapults.

What sort of Minions are under your employ?

SC: You have the Brown Warrior, the Red Fire-throwing Imp, the Green Stealth Assassin and the Enigmatic Blue Priest - each Minion type has their own personality and abilities.

How do you make the most of them?

SC: By using each individual Minion types for what they're best at doing. When faced with a wall of soldiers from the Glorious Empire, a good Overlord knows that wolf-mounted Browns will be able to tear them apart. Putting Blues on a flag next to where the battle is taking place will enable them to go in, pick up any fallen Minions and resurrect them.

Couple that with some Reds throwing fireballs from a distance and, when the battle's in full swing, sweep your Green stealth assassins in round the back to take care of any stragglers. Hmmm, I can hear the screams of pain and the sounds of destruction from here. Of course, the Minions do everything for the Overlord so even simple tasks like looting gold and picking up spell stones isn't beneath them.

What is it like to lord over so many underlings?

DS: It's the ultimate feeling of power. You'll get some people telling you a sports car is a better feeling, but with a gang of Minions you can just steal the sports car. Being an Overlord means you've got great power, and you can use it for some great irresponsibility.

Being able to command this gaggle of shrieking little maniacs is an experience. Just feel lucky that you can experience it, and that the Minions haven't stolen or wrecked your PLAYSTATION 3.

What creatures and beings are the most fun to torment and destroy?

SC: All of them! The Overlord doesn't fall for puppy eyes and doesn't discriminate! Seals and indeed all living animals in the Overlord II world carry life force. In [the first] Overlord it was sheep... but sheep get too cold in the frozen expanses of Nordberg, so seals live there instead. The baby seals are cute, but they eat fish to stay alive so in return they become a natural part of the food chain when the Minions clobber them for life force. Baby seals are harmless - and delicious - but their parents are the ones to look out for.

What items and trinkets should a good Overlord never leave the domain without?

SC: A good Overlord will never leave his dark domain without a good set of armour, a heavy weapon to do massive damage with and as many life force orbs as possible. An Overlord is nothing without his Minions and the number of life force orbs an Overlord has directly translates to how many Minions he can pull from the Netherworld Minions Burrows.

What's the worst thing you've got your Minions to perform in the quest for true evil?

DS: It's all down to interpretation. The seal mother didn't seem too impressed when I sent my Minions to batter her pups to death with clubs in front of her. It's not like their deaths were in vain: some of the Minions ended up wearing the cute little seal cub faces as hats. Anyway, she didn't have time to be too upset. I waded in with my sword and hacked her to bits. That annoyed the Yeti of course, but that's a whole other story.

What can you do to your Minions if they fail in your requests?

SC: The Overlord loves to dish out punishment so if a Minion fails carry out a request it can be sacrificed to the forge! All Overlords need weapons and armour, so the best use of a useless Minion, other than simply kicking them around, is to put them into a bubbling pit of molten metal.

Different coloured Minions will imbue your weapons and armour with different magical properties. There's nothing better than watching your Minion gleefully jump into a fiery pit of death when you know that you're going to get a new Overlord helmet from it!

What's the key to success in being a powerful and all-conquering overlord?

DS: Mercy is for the weak. Destroy anything that resists the brutal creep of your dark will, and maybe also destroy anything that doesn't. It's up to you, go nuts. Indulge your dark side. Don't be shy in chucking the Minions in to do the legwork for you. If they die in battle, you can always massacre some innocent creatures and spawn replacements.

Show us your whole world in your hands winners announced

Three talented filmmakers scoop the top prizes in the PSP-3000 short film competition.

We asked you to show us what your whole world in your hands looked like to win yourself a PSP with 20 games and the results were fantastic, showcasing top class filmmaking talent amongst the PlayStation community.

The three winners from the multitude of entries were chosen by British director, Eran Creevy, who's recently released independent film, Shifty, has since gone on to garner five British Independent Film Award nominations. The winners and their short films are:

DrRulez89 Notes of the Strausss Blue Danube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k0j-IQjejo
Eran: This has a great premise, shot selection, effects, choice of score and editing. Very accomplished - the kid's going to go far in filmmaking.

Rasnep My whole world in my hands http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFwd-iYUdyA
Eran: I got a real sense of who this kid was, what his life was like and the love that exists from his immediate family - his whole world. Not an easy thing to do in such a short amount of time. Well-edited and good choice of music over the top.

Ceeyracatastrophe My whole world in my hand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOOuIOIyHE0
Eran: This is really simple and slow - I loved the beauty of the idea and how sweet it made me feel inside... a bit like candy floss.

"I really wanted to show something that was special to me, and I heard that the last images that we see when we are dying are important moments in our life. With this base, I collected some of the best moments and the most special people in my life. Then I painted it all in a canvas to hold in my hands," said Rasnep of his winning entry.

DrRulez89's film on the other hand was influenced heavily by his love of cinema and science fiction. "Inspired by science fiction movies like Minority Report, I gave the power of the PSP to my hands. So, my hands were able to read a vinyl record, to play an old film and to take pictures. It's a simple idea that I spent four days shooting, editing and creating the effects."

"I honestly didn't expect to win and when I received the first email I thought I'd had come in as a runner-up," says Ceeyracatastrophe of hearing the news that her entry My Whole World In My Hand had been picked as a winner by Eran too. "I was so ecstatic, and called everyone who was involved, they were all really pleased. It was such a surprise!"

Not only has each winner picked up a PSP and great games, they have also won themselves a coveted work placement for summer 2009 with the director and his studio.

Congratulations to all three and thanks to everyone who took part in the competition.

Batman: Arkham Asylum interview

Lead Level Designer, Ian Ball and Lead Narrative Designer, Paul Crocker chat to eu.playstation.com about bringing the Dark Knight to life on PLAYSTATION 3.

Since the film Batman Begins we've seen the character return to much darker roots. What on-screen iteration of Batman would you say captures the essence and tone of what you're trying to create with Arkham Asylum?

IB: We have really been focused on bringing to life the source material from the original comic books as opposed to the movies which have their own look and feel. We read all the comics and graphic novels we could get hold of.

We were really inspired by the dark psychological elements within all this material, especially around Batman himself. Anyone who witnesses the murder of their parents is going to have some demons they need to overcome.

Can you tell us a little bit about the story and the background to why Batman is here in Arkham Asylum?

IB: The story begins with Batman returning The Joker to Arkham Asylum after his latest psychopathic misdemeanour. The Joker was easier to capture than normal, almost as though he wanted to be brought back to Arkham.

The Dark Knight wants to make sure he is securely locked up so is going to escort him all the way to his cell in the depths of the asylum. This is when it all kicks off...

Were there ever any discussions as to whether or not a sidekick like Robin would be present in the game or was Batman always destined to go it alone in Arkham Asylum?

IB: Right at the start we talked about sidekicks, Robin, Nightwing etc, but as the discussions progressed we decided to focus on Batman as a lone hero as there was so much we wanted to do! This allowed us to focus the story around him and his relationship with The Joker and the other Arkham inmates, all of whom have grudges against the Bat.

In terms of the Batman lore in Arkham Asylum, what have you woven in and from which sources?

IB: Arkham Asylum has a long history; most of the supervillains in the Batman universe have spent some time within its walls. There are lots of references to these characters dotted around the island for the player to discover as well as some indication as to what was there before the asylum was built, way back to when it was the family home of Amadeus Arkham.

Can you tell us about the different types of gadgets Batman will have at his disposal during the game?

IB: The Grapnel Gun and Batarangs are what Batman starts the game with, along with a special Detective Mode visor built into his cowl. This visor allows him to analyse the environment and also gather forensic data such as fingerprints or DNA which allows him to track an individual's movements throughout Arkham. There are loads more gadgets and upgrades to collect and the player will even get to visit a secret Batcave on the island!

Has the fact that Arkham Asylum is not based on a film aided in the direction of where the game aims to go with the character?

IB: It has given us the freedom to create our own story that fits in with all the cool gameplay mechanics like the FreeFlow combat and Invisible Predator. We could chose a location [Arkham Island] where we can give the player total freedom to explore the different areas but still allow us to drive the story forward.

When working on a film licence the story is already there and you cannot usually deviate too far from it. This can obviously limit what you can achieve with the characters in the game.

How does it feel to be developing such a hugely anticipated project starring one of the greatest comic book character of all time?

IB: It can be scary at times, reading the forums about what the fans want from the game, all the hype and the expectations. But we have a lot of experienced people at Rocksteady who have worked on some big IPs in the past, so we can focus on what is important, making this the best superhero game ever.

Can you tell us a little bit about the kind of villains Batman will face in Arkham?

IB: Obviously there's The Joker, and his "girlfriend" Harley Quinn slowing you down giving The Joker time to put his master plan into action. The Joker's goons have also been shipped into Arkham following a convenient fire at Blackgate prison. Bane, Killer Croc, Zsasz, Poison Ivy, plus several other big names also get in on the action.

Will each section of the Asylum have a villain and his gang that rules the corridors or is going to be more of a mash-up of all kinds of thugs and supervillains in every section?

IB: It's a big Joker party with some supervillain VIPs invited along to spice things up. They are all there to greet the guest of honour, Batman.

And do these supervillains represent boss fights at the end of each stage of the game?

IB: Yep! You get to face off against some of the biggest names and biggest bosses in the Batman universe.

There are also a number of modes that are unlocked once you complete the game. Can you take us through some of these and explain how they work?

IB: You can unlock challenge maps that will push your FreeFlow combat and Invisible Predator skills to the limit. The combat challenge maps are all about big combos and even bigger scores.

Batman will face waves of enemies and must take them down with as much style as possible. Bonus points are awarded at the end of each wave for various feats such as never getting hit and the variation of moves you use.

The Predator challenges are slower paced, but just as demanding. The enemies are armed with shotguns and assault rifles so running up and punching them in the face is not advisable. After all, Batman is only human.

These challenges are against the clock, but you are also rewarded for taking down certain enemies in a particular way. These challenges vary per map and incorporate the use of different skills and gadgets.

Also exclusively to the PS3 you can play both the combat and predator challenges as The Joker. You will be facing off against Arkham guards and The Joker has his own set of twisted attacks and deadly gadgets.

And the combat system you've developed for it, can you shed a little light on that and how players will use it and the control system?

IB: The combat controls are very simple to learn, but take real skill to master. You have a strike, stun, evade and counter button, but it's how you use these buttons that makes all the difference.

As you build up your combo Batman starts to flow effortlessly between punches and kicks, ducking under their attacks before sending them flying in all directions. You can also incorporate gadget into the combat, throwing Batarangs to knock enemies down or using the Batclaw to pull enemies towards you.

Then you have takedowns and throws. It feels very satisfying to face off against a room full of enemies and take them all down without them landing a blow.

You've also managed to snare Paul Dini on story writing duties, how much of a hand has he had in the crafting script. Has he been involved from the outset?

IB: He worked with us from the start to create an original storyline incorporating the best villains from the Batman Universe. Killer Croc, Harley Quinn and many others play their part, but the main focus is obviously on The Joker.

It's fantastic to see that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill have come on board. Did they sign on straight away or did it take some convincing?

PC: I think that having the pedigree of Paul Dini attached to the project made a huge difference in regards to people wanting to work on the game.

What have they been like working with? Did they (especially Mark) ad lib any dialogue or add suggestions while recording or was it just what was on the page?

PC: They were all great. Mark in particular was always ad-libbing or coming up with darker and lighter ways of saying the lines. Both he and Kevin bring a massive level of authenticity to the roles.

Are there any other surprises in store for fans in terms of the talent jumping on board to lend their voices to characters in the game?

PC: We can't say exactly who is in the game character wise, but rest assured, fans are in for a real treat.

Do you see Arkham Asylum as the beginning of a new tale in the Batman universe that can be carried on in subsequent sequels?

IB: If people like this game and they demand more then who knows what will happen next.

How did Luxoflux become involved in the development of Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen?

We've been lifelong fans of Transformers anyway, and when we heard about the first film and that Activision were going to get the license we actually wanted to do it then. That was several years ago and the reason we didn't do it was because of the timing.

Our studio was in the midst of developing technology for next generation consoles and the timeframe was very tight, which meant we wouldn't be able to develop our engine as much as we would have liked to. So when Revenge Of The Fallen came about we jumped at it and came up with loads of ideas for how to do a great Transformers game.

Is there pressure in developing a game like Revenge Of The Fallen and the fact that it must be ready for the film's release?

Yeah, but it's a good sense of pressure. We've been developing games for a very long time and we've got some great people on the team which allows us to have a pretty good idea of what we can accomplish in a certain amount of time. So actually in a sense, there is a certain amount of pleasure in knowing when the end date is and working backwards from that.

What was it like working with the film's director, Michael Bay?

When we first met him he said that we would have a challenge on our hands in keeping up with his pace, and it turned out it was even faster than we thought. But he also understands that what we do as developers is a different kind of art to filmmaking, and we were really pleased that he got that from the outset.

He just said to us: ‘I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do with the film, which is to tell the story from a human perspective. I'm not going to tell you to do that because my suggestion would be that you do it from the robots' perspective.' That was perfect because it was exactly what we wanted to do. It was just a really good marriage between us, Paramount, Michael Bay and Hasbro, because everybody understood each others' expertise and was more than ready to share each others information.

Did you have great access to Hasbro's wealth of Transformers knowledge and expertise?

Oh yeah. They were great from day one. They came in and saw what we were trying to do with the transformation mechanic and the fact that we included the War Room in the game, which is a fan favourite feature carried over from the original series.

They came out of our first few meetings knowing that we were taking care of their baby, and also that we were taking it to a whole other dimension by doing things that none of the other games, and maybe the movies, had ever done before.

You've not only included all the Transformers from the film, you've also got old designs from many years ago and revamped them for the game.

Yeah, we've done that with the Seeker on the Decepticon side, the Protectobots and the Aerialbots. There are a few others as well but they're a surprise for the fans when they play through the game. Those are fan favourites for us and the kinds of Transformers that our director was really shooting for during the development process.

These are really cool characters that at least implied an additional sense of hierarchy to characters such as Starscream, who has the Seekers under his wing so to speak. They're not in the film, so we went back to the old toy designs and updated them so they matched the look of the film, which was really fun to do.

Transformers fans are extremely loyal and vocal about what they want from a game like this; how did you go about incorporating all that feedback into Revenge Of The Fallen?

We read a lot of forum posts, which is always scary because they are very vocal. Yet, it's an awesome resource. We as developers already had a lot of ideas and we were scared about digging deep into these forums and reading about what people wanted because it could be 180 degrees from what we really wanted to do. The good thing was that everything the fans wanted, we wanted and the two most prominent things were multiplayer and transforming anytime, anywhere.

Does the story for the game follow the films, or were you able to deviate slightly and add some of your own material?

Our approach was to ask the filmmakers and Hasbro what are going to be the four or five most memorable moments in the movie that people are going to talk about when they come out of the theatre. Asking that question right at the start meant that we knew that those scenes were definitely going to stay in the film despite the fact they were very early into production.

So once we synchronised with those points in the film, we had a lot of latitude for territory in between and flesh out stuff that the film only hints at, or maybe doesn't go into at all.

How many characters will players control in the game?

In the core game there are five playable Autobots and five playable Decepticons and then there is some stuff that happens later in the game that means you effectively get two additional playable characters. So there are 12 in total there for players to get to grips with.

We also have several unlocks, some of which are retailer exclusive and we'll also have downloadable content in the future.

What was it like working with Peter Cullen, the actor who voices Optimus Prime?

He was fantastic and amazing in the sound recording. Our whole crew got to go there and they were just over the moon about it. They came to our studio and they met our whole development team and answered loads of questions, signed autographs, toys and one of our guys had a brand new Mini Cooper and he had him sign his dashboard in indelible ink!

Tee off against the world in Tiger Woods 10

Take on players from around the world in Live Tournaments – just one of the new features in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10.

Since 1998, the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series has been transporting PlayStation players into the smart trousers and polo shirts of the world's best golfers, on the most famous courses.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 continues that tradition, featuring more than 25 male and female golf stars and 27 real-life courses, such as St. Andrews and TPC Sawgrass, with more available from PlayStation Store, and for the first time, players can enter the U.S. Open during their PGA Tour Season.

This year's improvements take you closer to the real world of golf than ever before and build on the online advancements made with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. Live Tournaments make their debut in daily and weekly varieties, allowing you to pitch and putt against the online community. Simply select a tournament - there are 18 daily tournaments and six weekly tournaments at the time of writing, each with different courses, skill level and numbers of rounds - and hit the course. In some Live Tournaments you can play as many rounds as you like and your best score will be posted to the leaderboard; in others, you only get one chance.

For added realism, you can switch the weather settings to Live Feed and regardless of which course you are playing and when, weather conditions replicate what is happening there, at that moment. You can also see how you match up to the best in Play the Pros Tournaments, where the real life scores of top pros are updated during major events for you to compete against.

If you prefer to play alone, you can create your own golfer and embark on a PGA Tour Season. The Tiger Woods PGA Tour series is renowned for its deep character creation tool and this year's instalment is no exception. You can even insert your own face into the game using EA Sports' Photo Game Face, which uses a photograph, be it captured using the PLAYSTATION Eye Camera or submitted to easportsworld.com, to render the player's face in the game accurately.

Between tournaments in PGA Tour Season, Tiger Woods' coach, Hank Haney, provides training drills to help boost your skills, including the new Precision Putting which now resembles a regular swing in that you pull the Left Stick on the Wireless Controller back to determine power and push it forward, in as straight a line as possible, for accuracy.

In between competitions you can also try out some Tournament Challenges, which recreate tricky moments that top players have encountered in past tournaments. Beating them earns you money which can be spent on clothing, clubs and balls in the Club Shop.

If you have friends over then there are plenty of offline multiplayer options, from standard rounds of golf, to mini-games such as Target Golf, where you aim for brightly coloured targets scattered around the course. Online, you can jump into a random match quickly and easily or set up your own and tailor it to your exact preferences. Simultaneous Play cuts out the waiting time between shots, allowing all players to swing at the same time, with your opponent's shots displayed as different coloured arcs.

After more than a decade of additions and improvements to the series, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 offers great value in terms of the content on the Blu-ray Disc. With 27 courses, tonnes of game modes and an incredible array of tournament and multiplayer options, golf enthusiasts will find enough to keep them coming back for a very long time.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 interview

Team Ninja producer Yousuke Hayashi talks exclusively to eu.playstation.com about Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2’s new characters, online co-op and downloadable content.

Talk us through the differences between the original Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3 and Sigma 2, and what you hope to bring to the fans with this second entry on PS3?

Well, we have introduced three new female playable characters - Ayane, Momiji and Rachel - and secondly an online mode which is different from the story in the form of an online co-op mode.

Why did you choose these characters and how are their abilities different to those of Ryu?

Well the three female characters have in some way or another featured previously in the Ninja Gaiden series. We wanted to allow the players to play through these characters and so that's why we decided to make them playable in Sigma 2.

All three of them have different qualities in terms of action. Ayane is a very speedy ninja; Momiji is very powerful and has some tricky actions that really allow the players to get into the game. Rachel, again, possesses extreme power in her actions and each of them is therefore distinct in terms of their characteristics, and so produce different kinds of actions in conjunction with Ryu.

In terms of who will be the most popular, we just don't know until players start playing the game.

Can you elaborate a little on the online mode and how players will experience it when the game arrives?

The online co-operative mode offers up an arena for a new type of play so in that respect certain campaigns are available online. However, this is our very first attempt at online play and in the future we'll take a look at the possibility of bringing the entire experience online at some point.

Do you think that the future of games such as Ninja Gaiden lies in online co-op play?

I think it's good to experience different modes of play but not all types of play are suited to an online mode. What we tried to do was introduce a new type of experience to players with our online mode. We need to produce new forms of play for players to experience.

I don't believe that all forms of actions games are appropriate for an online mode, and that all campaigns in a game should be available online from beginning to end.

What do you think makes a genuinely rewarding co-operative play experience on PLAYSTATION 3?

The key to co-operative play is the requirement that everyone who takes part in it enjoys it. It's no good if only some of the people involved are enjoying it. The other thing is that we wouldn't want to impose on players the need to do something in co-operation with another player. Our philosophy is to ensure that players enjoy playing together rather than having to play together.

Is there going to be an online scoreboard relating to the co-operative play mode?

Yes there will be. You'll be able to see what score you have achieved and what other players around the world have also scored.

Ninja Gaiden is an adult game, and you have toned down the level of violence from the first game on PS3. What was the decision behind this design choice?

When we developed Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma we noticed that a lot of games featured a significant amount of violence in them, so rather than replicating this we focused on the cooler aspects in this game.

Will the Trophies available for players to unlock reflect the now infamous difficulty levels of the Ninja Gaiden series?

Trophies are an indication of how well the player has played the game, so we've provided a broad range of Trophies for players. Some are easier to get, and some will prove much more difficult.

What are your plans for downloadable content once the game has been released?

Our idea is to try to build in things that the fans aspire to and we will develop content along those lines. For the time being we are going to provide you with the game on the disc and then we'll talk to fans after release about additional content.

Our thinking on this is to really ensure people fully enjoy what they get on the game disc first.

PEGI introduces new ratings

PEGI introduces new age rating logos.

The PEGI age rating system was established to help European parents make informed decisions on buying computer games. It was launched in spring 2003 and replaced some national age rating systems with a single system now used throughout most of Europe.

A PEGI rating for each videogame consists of an age rating icon (3, 7, 12, 16 or 18) and one or more descriptors. The descriptors are small pictures which indicate the type of content in the game that may be of concern to parents and players.

The pictures are designed to represent Bad Language, Discrimination, Gambling, Drugs, Fear, Sex, Violence and Online Gameplay. The age rating and descriptors appear each time a game is sold either on packaging or prior to purchase when an online game is sold.

New ratings revealed

From 1 September, the current ratings of 3, 7, 12, 16 and 18 years appearing on videogames will be coloured from green through to orange and red. The descriptors are also going to be further clarified by the addition of text to explain the pictures. .

This should make the PEGI system even clearer, and as such make playing games even safer for the public.

For more information on the new ratings system visit www.pegi.info

Visit www.ps-playsafeonline.com for more information on safety and security in games.

PlayStation scoops multiple E3 awards

European journalists heap praise on the upcoming PlayStation games shown at E3 in 2009.

After the excitement of E3, the European games press found time to round up their favourite announcements from the LA Convention Centre, with several PlayStation titles scooping multiple plaudits.

Eurogamer awarded Sony Computer Entertainment with their Best Publisher prize, adding that it presented "Quantity and quality in abundance, but it was the sheer variety that amazed."

Judging from the permanent crowd assembled around Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Nathan Drake’s latest adventure is one of the most anticipated games coming to PLAYSTATION 3, and the critics came away suitably impressed. 1UP gave it their coveted Best of Show award, while IGN and GameSpot both picked it out as their best PS3 game and the title with the most impressive graphics.

Similarly, Heavy Rain attracted plenty of attention on the show floor and this was reflected in the Best Adventure Game accolade it collected from GameSpot and the Special Achievement for Innovation award from IGN.

One game that was not available to play at E3 but was still one of the most talked about is The Last Guardian, the first PS3 title from the creators of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. It gained an honourable mention in Eurogamer’s Best Game Announcement award, which was won by the shock revelation that Final Fantasy Online XIV is coming exclusively to PS3. IGN were also clearly excited by Akira Ueda’s latest experience, as they picked it out for Best Artistic Design and Best Non-playable Presentation.

It was also a good E3 for PlayStation Store and IGN picked upcoming PS3 games Trine, Fat Princess and PixelJunk Shooter for first, second and third places respectively in their Best Downloadable Game category.

Sackboy got some love from IGN, with LittleBigPlanet PSP winning Best Platformer, and Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time scooping the corresponding award from GameSpot.
